Utopia

Over the past few years, our world has become a very toxic and politically polarized place. Almost everyone has an opinion, which is not bad in itself, but we do not tolerate an alternate point of view. The moment a discussion starts, it takes only three sentences to turn it into a verbal battle which may lead to a brawl if it is happening in the real – as against virtual – world. The leftists don’t see eye to eye with the rightists. The conservatives hiss at the liberals, and the liberals hyperventilate at the neo-liberals. Things have come to such a pass that family dinners are eaten either silently or separately. Life on the internet is adversarial, you have either to be pro-something or anti-something, otherwise, you won’t get any followers or likes. I was thinking about all this violence and a brilliant (according to me) idea came to mind. Why not let followers of the same religion have an exclusive area to live. Yes, the time has come for dividing the world into ghettos again. Let’s say all Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, Atheists, etc., are allotted separate lands to live in. Okay, the next step would be dividing those lands into leftists, rightists, centrists… and so on. So far so good eh? Wait, someone says. The leftists should have separate lands for Marxists, Leninists, Stalinists. Similar divisions would be there in the Rightists groups eg. the nazis, ultra-rightists, Le Penists (oops that was a Freudian slip). Will there be peace after all these divisions? Nope because we still have the diet divisions of meat-eaters, vegetarians, and vegans, etc. Still no peace in the world because those who like the colour blue want the whole world to be painted blues but those who like red are opposing them tooth and nail. Ultimately I have come to the conclusion that the world would have to be divided into 7.5 billion individual parcels of land to have World peace and harmony.

Wouldn’t it be easier if we tried to tone down our rhetoric and understand and tolerate each other’s views?
